Oaklyn Plantation Free Range Chicken is the
best eatin’ chicken in the Carolinas. 

The chickens are raised by David White on a family farm in Darlington South Carolina. Oaklyn Plantation Chickens are raised completely differently from ordinary supermarket chickens which are typically grown "factory farm" style. Our chickens aren’t cooped up or crammed together. Instead, they live most of their lives outside on fresh pasture in the sunny South, with plenty of "personal space" for ranging.  The land grazed by the chickens is managed organically (and has been certified organic for 10 of the past 13 years) so you can rest easy knowing the birds are eating "clean greens".

Our Chickens are not fed antibiotics, coccidiostats or other artificial growth promotants. (They are also not fed hormones, but no chickens are, since USDA doesn’t allow it.) The chickens are allowed to grow at a natural pace, which means they grow more slowly and aren’t rushed to market.  The feed available to them includes roasted soybeans, non GM corn, oats and fishmeal as well as a vitamin mineral supplement with kelp meal yeast and probiotics.

The chickens are an integral part of a total farm system which includes row crops and cattle. The manure left behind by the chickens is an important farm fertilizer for crops. The chickens are moved to different fields to keep them on clean ground (an important guard against disease) and to spread fertility around the farm.

Oaklyn Plantation Free-Range Chickens are processed in a family owned USDA plant in Kingstree South CArolina., with careful attention to maintaining high quality standards.  The birds are stunned using CO2 - the standard in Europe for humane killing and are air chilled to avoid any water take up as in conventional poultry processing.

It used to be that chicken was fine dining. At one time it was more expensive than seafood! Well we haven’t made it more expensive than lobster but we are raising a bird fit for the Sunday dinner table.
